SHAM - Day laborers plan community service , again

Day laborers plan community service, hoping to help image

Day laborers are gearing up for a national day of community service tomorrow — planning to clean up garbage, paint trees and beautify neighborhoods in 20 cities around the country, including Los Angeles.

Orange County isn’t on the list — but workers made a similar stop in Modjeska Canyon earlier this year to help residents whose properties were damaged in last year’s wildfires.

The effort isn’t pure altruism but a pitch by day laborers to improve their image amid a barrage of local ordinances that aim to crack down on work solicitation and the political uproar over illegal immigration.

Spare us. If these day laborers are illegal, and they want to act as responsible members of our communities, then they will return to their countries of origin, make sure they have they have the skills and education so as to not be burden for taxpayers, learn English, and study the culture and history of the United States. Then they can apply to enter the U.S. legally.

I know I'm dreaming, but until such time they are lawbreakers.

I suggest...no I insist IA's take their skills home to their villages/towns in the countries they are citizens and help those folks make their lives better.

Considering the IA cost to the American taxpayer makes their commuinity help a laughable joke since money that should be spent on our citizens, our commuinities is instead being spent on IA's !!

Do they really think that by "planning to clean up garbage and beautify neighborhoods" that it will improve their status of being in our country illegally?

DONT DO US ANY FAVORS! WELL, I TAKE THAT BACK. DO US A FAVOR AND MOVE YOURSELF BACK HOME AND APPLY TO ENTER OUR COUNTRY THE LEGAL WAY.

THEY PAINT TREES TO COVER UP THE GRAFFITI ON THEM. JUST THE TRUNK IS PAINTED BECAUSE THAT IS USUALLY THE PART THAT HAS GRAFFITI ON IT. I HAVE SEEN THAT HERE IN SAN FRANCISCO TOO.

It's probably all the illegals own garbage, anyway. If they want to do something, they should clean up the tons of garbage they left down on the border. Preferably from the other side.

Hey everybody. I'm starting to have more success with the regulatory agencies. Not only are Building law enforcement personnel going out and kicking butt and taking names in response to my complaining (well they actually write hefty fines and who knows what else: non-registration, workers comp. laws, tax laws) I've even gotten to know some of them. Today, I was talking to a lady in the State office who said her son would like to get in a construction union apprenticeship program---and she knew the illegals were taking a lot of the jobs her son would need to gain the initial experience.

Now, something else. From the Workers Comp issue (and unlicensed contractors dodging that responsibility) I'm learning about the LEASED WORKER REGISTRATION process. There's state laws on that, too (Think Temporary Labor providers.) So, next step is to find out if day laborer centers need to follow these rules, too. Whatever cities might come up with as far as trying to help day laborers they still are subject to state regulation. I'll let you know what I find out.
