Sheriff Prepares for Another Crime Deterrence Operation

August 7, 2008 - 06:03:46 Phoenix, AZ. - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Human Smuggling Unit arrested sixteen more illegal aliens under the Arizona felony human smuggling law, in the North Valley, these arrests now total 1051.

The Sheriff’s human smuggling detectives arrested three smugglers and thirteen co-conspirators in the New River area within one hour of operations. Inside a Ford, deputies arrested one smuggler, David Oscar Urquiza-Rodriguez (DOB 05-12-81) and eight co-conspirators en route to California, Chicago, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Inside a Chevy, deputies
arrested two smugglers, Marcelino De La Cruz-Villegas (DOB 05/07/80) & Fortunato Mendoza- Santos (DOB 10/08/63), and five conspirators. Interviews with those arrested determined that each agreed to pay between $200.00 and $11,000.00 for being smuggled. Every suspect arrested under the law was booked directly into jail and are non-bondable under law.
