The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office arrested twenty suspects in Maryvale Friday for vending food without a permit and violating federal immigration law.

Out of those detained, 17 were streets vendors allegedly operating without a permit and up to 18 were processed as undocumented immigrants, officials said. One truck and twelve vending carts were impounded during the crackdown, launched Friday by the sheriff's office on behalf of Maricopa County Environmental Services.

Officials said the campaign was fueled under suspicions that the food - mainly corn covered in mayonnaise - was cooked in contaminated equipment.
