LIVINGSTON – A traffic stop in March led to the arrest May 3 of a Honduran national wanted for murder in his home country, according to Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard.

The Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Border Patrol agents received information that Wilson Gerardo Alvarado-Pacheco, 30, was in the Springfield area.

“Based on that new information, U.S. Border Patrol and LPSO deputies were able to successfully apprehend him – without incident,” Ard said.

Alvarado-Pacheco is in the custody of U.S. Border Patrol, he said.

In Livingston Parish, he was charged with reckless operation of a vehicle, resisting an officer, theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The case began when deputies made a routine traffic stop March 7 off Park Ridge Avenue in Denham Springs.
“When deputies approached the vehicle, the driver fled on foot,” Ard said. “Deputies were unable to locate him at that time.”

A passenger, Junior Nolasco, 18, was taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
A search in and around the vehicle found suspected drug paraphernalia, cell phone and passport belonging to Alvarado-Pacheco, Ard said.

The investigation also revealed both men – Honduran nationals– were not in the U.S. legally and the U.S. Border Patrol was contacted.

“From them, we learned Wilson Gerardo Alvarado-Pacheco was wanted for a homicide in Honduras,” Ard said.

U.S. Border Patrol took Nolasco into custody and a warrant was issued for Alvarado-Pacheco.

“I am thankful for the dedication of my LPSO team – following the evidence and building this case,” Ard said. “(And) special thanks to those with U.S. Border Patrol for working with us and continuing to communicate with us.
“The arrest of Pacheco is noteworthy in several ways,” said Gregory Bovino, chief Border Patrol officer.

“First, the arrest of this dangerous international fugitive highlights the dedication and motivated attitude of the team at the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office,” he said.

“We value our partnership with the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office and look forward to continuing to work with them to keep dangerous criminals off the street.

“Second, the arrest of Pacheco highlights the concern of many that an illegal alien wanted for murder in another country was living freely, undetected in our community until coming into contact with Livingston Parish deputies and Border Patrol agents.”
