Thread: Report: Tea Party Gifford's enemy, father says

The father of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who was shot in the head Saturday, told The New York Post that the "whole tea party" was her enemy.

"They always get threatened," said Spencer Giffords.

Giffords was shot at close range along with several other people at a public event outside a Tucson grocery store. She is reportedly in surgery at a local hospital.

Giffords also reported the door to her Tucson office was smashed by vandals after she voted in favor of healthcare reform in March.


Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips condemned the attacks, but warned supporters that the Tea Party movement would be blamed by political opponents.

"While we need to take a moment to extend our sympathies to the families of those who died, we cannot allow the hard left to do what it tried to do in 1995 after the Oklahoma City bombing," he said.

Jared Laughner, the man who shot Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), was described by eyewitnesses as a young white man who looked like a "fringe character."

Laughner shot Giffords and 12 others at a public event at a Safeway grocery store in Tucscon. He reportedly shot the congresswoman "point blank" in the head and may have come from inside the store. After shooting Giffords, he allegedly fired 20-30 rounds and hit "a number of people," including a child. He attempted to flee after running out of ammunition and was tackled by one of Giffords' staffers.

Eyewitnesses have described Laughner as "young, mid-to-late 20s, white, clean-shaven with short hair and wearing dark clothing."

He was arrested upon arrival of the sheriff's department.

4:03 PM ET Surgeon 'Very Optimistic' About Giffords, One Dead, Five Critical

A surgeon is "very optimistic" about Rep. Giffords. He adds that she was shot in the head "through and through."

"We cannot tell what kind of recovery but I'm about as optimistic as it can get in this situation."

He also says that there are 10 patients from the shooting, one has died, five are in critical condition. The dead patient was a child -- the only one that came to the hospital.

Prayers to the Congresswoman and her family and friends. I suspect her father is speaking out of grief, trying to understand why this has happened.

Condolences to the victims and their families.

Now the heat turns up on all burners right side of the stove. This is exactly what the left has longed for, and you can bet they'll be coming after the 1st and 2nd Amendments shortly and in force.

I know the congresswoman's father is distraught, but he couldn't have made a more damaging political statement. It will be repeated over and over now in order to force the right into a defensive posture, and the apologies will be demanded daily as if TEA people were the shooter.

Of his favorite books, were Mein Kampf, and The Communist Manifesto. Those are Liberal, Left Wing books.

To a grieving father, I can understand that he thinks anyone who did not vote for her is her enemy. Pretty broad blanket statement to make.
