Shots fired aboard Miami flight

MIAMI - Shots were fired Wednesday from a federal air marshal’s gun on board an American Airlines jet that had landed at Miami International Airport, an official said. At least one person was wounded, according to broadcast reports.

A law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed shots were fired from the marshal’s gun.

The plane had just arrived from Colombia and was headed to Orlando, the broadcast reports said. Television images showed police SWAT officers surrounding the plane.

Airport and Miami-Dade County police officials said they had no immediate comment. American Airlines officials had no immediate comment.

One has been killed, I just heard.

This was the first story I saw when the story was breaking. I'll look for an updated one with more information.

(KUTV) Police have surrounded an American Airlines jet at Miami International Airport, after at least one shot was fired onboard from a federal air marshal. Miami CBS station WFOR is reporting that one person has died as a result of the shooting.

The jetliner is listed as flight number 924 from Medellin, Colombia, which stopped in Miami en route to Orlando.

According to an eyewitness, a passenger onboard claimed that he had a bomb. That suspect was reportedly shot and killed by the marshal.

This marks the first time a federal air marshal has ever fired a weapon on a U.S. jetliner.

I just heard another report and the first article WAS right--the person was shot ON the plane. That's about all I've heard other than what is in the two articles you've posted.

Sounds like the shooting was justified if they had a crazy person claiming to have a bomb. I wonder if it was a US citizen or someone from another country who was shot?

I just heard the LATEST report. He was NOT shot ON the plane. He was shot on the jet-way after deplaning. He was a 44 year old American apparently traveling with his wife. And, he is dead. It does seem that it was justified for sure. He evidently wouldn't stop when he was told to and reached toward the bag he was carrying. They told him repeatedly to stop to no avail and they shot. At one point, I HEARD that they said he had a bomb but that hasn't been confirmed.

I heard someone say his wife claimed he was bipolar and that he charged at the marshall. However nothing reported in writing yet on all the details.

I need to put the TV back on the news. I hadn't heard that one.
