Car Washes Cited $1 Million for Labor Violations

Officials with state division of Labor Standards Enforcement have issued over 150 citations to car washes in six counties, including Santa Barbara and Ventura.
Car washes in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, San Diego,
Ventura, and Santa Barbara counties were targeted in a two-day
enforcement sweep, a total of $1.6 million.
Almost 100 car washes were cited for nonpayment, meal break violations, not providing compensation insurance and a host of others.

Investigators say car washes in may cases forced employees to
work more than eight hour days without overtime. They also found
instances where workers never received meal, or rest breaks.
In addition to the $1 million, many of the car washes will undergo payroll audits so back wages can be recovered.

The eight car washes in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties were cited for up to $80,000 for violations.
These local car washes were all cited for the same thing, not providing employers with workman's compensation insurance and not registering employees annually.

In Santa Barbara; Fastpass Car Wash, Kan Holdings LLC, Oxnard Car Wash & Lubed were cited $30,000 total.
In Ventura County, Tony's Car Wash, California Car Wash, Ochoa Detailing, A + Hand Car Wash and Auto Scrubber HW Detailing were all cited $50,000.


Having protested solo in front of a local carwash this news is very pleasing, though I wish employee's docs were checked as many of the car washer's are illegals! It is a step in the right direction if business owners are forced to pay fair wages perhaps American's will go back to work. At one time these jobs went to high school and college aged kids, now exclusively hispanics of the illegal variety.

WE USE TO MAKE SOME MONEY WASHING CARS IN HIGH SCHOOL. WE WOULD JUST GO AROUND AND LOOK FOR DIRTY CARS AND THEN KNOCK ON THE DOOR TO SEE IF THEY WANTED US TO WASH THEIR CAR.
