Since crackdown, 300 illegal immigrants detained in Mo.
St. Louis Business Journal
About 300 illegal immigrants have been detained since Missouri passed one of the nation’s toughest laws cracking down on illegal immigration 13 months ago, the governor’s office said.
All state police agencies were directed to verify the immigration status of anyone presented for incarceration. The state’s immigration law also prohibits sanctuary cities and the issuance of a Missouri driver license to an illegal immigrant and creates new penalties for helping an illegal immigrant obtain a license by fraud.
Early last year, Gov. Matt Blunt ousted a state contractor who hired illegal workers and ordered state agencies to enact a no-tolerance policy. The governor canceled the state’s contract with Sam’s Janitorial Services and barred them from doing further business with the state after local and federal law enforcement agencies identified dozens of suspected illegal immigrants working under falsified documents.
