Six men with extensive criminal backgrounds were apprehended by border agents in four separate incidents.
Border Patrol agents working in the Tucson sector first arrested 45-year-old Jose Arceo-Vasquez on November 8 near Sells. An Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) revealed Vasquez, a citizen of Mexico, had been convicted of accessory to murder in Los Angeles in 1988. It was also discovered that Vasquez was also convicted in 1996 for being a felon in possession of a firearm and was found guilty of burglary and grand theft in October of last year.
The following day Manuel Sanchez, 41, was arrested by border agents after he was caught driving a vehicle with over 350 pounds of marijuana. When his information was entered into IAFIS, the system revealed Sanchez had been found guilty of burglary in Chandler in 1984 and was also convicted for kidnapping in Globe in 1993.
The third subject apprehended by Border Patrol was a 37-year-old Mexican national whose name was not released. He was arrested on November 9 and was processed in Naco, where IAFIS revealed he had two existing warrants out of Los Angeles for dangerous drugs.
A 32-year-old man, also a Mexican national whose name was not released, was detained on November 10. He was processed at the Border Patrol station in Nogales where agents discovered he was the main suspect in a Phoenix homicide investigation.
According to a media release, two additional individuals with extensive criminal histories were arrested on November 12. Fernando Pech-Salazar, 39, had been convicted in 1994 of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age by force in California. He was also found guilty of re-entry of an aggravated felon in 2002. David Morales-Castillo, 22, was also taken into custody. IAFIS revealed he was found guilty of second-degree murder in 2005.
The news release indicates all six individuals are in custody pending prosecution or extradition.
