A Fresno man wanted in connection with the March 8 shooting death of Antonio Lopez, Jr., 18, of Fresno was arrested Tuesday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro border crossing.

Jesus Melgarejo Jr., 18, a U.S. citizen, was riding in a car driven by a 19-year-old woman. The pair gave officials their California birth certificates and driver's licenses when they applied for entry into the U.S. from Mexico, said Jacqueline Dizdul, a Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman.

Border officials checked Melgarejo's name in a law enforcement database and found he was wanted in Fresno. Melgarejo was arrested and booked into the San Diego County Jail, where he is awaiting extradition to Fresno.

According to Fresno police reports, Melgarejo is one of four men believed responsible for the shooting death of Lopez near Maple and Tulare avenues.

Also in custody on suspicion of the murder are Anthony Carrera, 18, and Shane Bernal, 18. Police are still seeking Carlos Luna, 19, in connection with the slaying.
