Suspected Smuggler to Be Charged With Murder

HIDALGO COUNTY - An suspected smuggler accused of leaving his partner to drown in the Rio Grande will be charged with murder this afternoon.

The 17-year-old is accused of bailing out of a car as it plunged into the river and leaving his passenger to die. It happened Thursday south of Mission after a chase.

The victim, 17-year-old Mario Alberto Gonzalez Cruz, was a Mexican national who has been deported twice before.
