I know how hard it is to learn English and he is on the right track. I sincerely hope he succeeds, schools need more principals like him, not apologists and bleeding hearts!

I agree completely with a few comments. It’s not surprising this journalist wannabee tries to rescue this particular school (it’s just one of many failures in Texas). Recall Macarena Hernandez is the despicable open borders activist who accused Fox News of being partially culpable in six murders of illegal aliens in Georgia. She hates the term illegal alien and seems unwilling even to use the term undocumented immigrant. For her, immigrant is sufficient to obfuscate the issue to fit her agenda. She’s zealously anti-American and pro-Mexican. She knows if we kick out all the illegal aliens, our socialized government schools will return to the day-to-day struggles, normal for socialized government school objectives. This Latina is so liberal, she makes the communists blush.

What this despicable non-journalist omits here is our school budgets are skyrocketing along with the tax rates while teachers fiddle with bureaucratic details -- like educating illegal aliens. In my district, most folks pay about $5,000 annually – forever -- in support of the socialized government school. In an average lifespan, each property owner here will contribute approximately $250,000 to this failed system. And even at that exorbitant rate, the levels of learning are plummeting and parents are trickling out to private schools at an increasing rate. The ultimate consequence of this trend is we'll end up with socialized government schools for the Mexicans, paid for by citizens. And we'll have private schools for citizens, also paid for by citizens. Even in view of this dire state, taxpayers seem for the first time ever, willing to pay an additional $50,000 or so to provide their children with adequate high school educations. The principal’s effort is noble but the writer’s agenda is scurrilous.

I think learning any language is difficult and not all do real well. Both my girls took German and were at it for more than 2 years and even they say they might stumble through but didn't consider themselves bi-lingual enough to function with ease if they were dropped in Germany. Especially not if English was readily avaliable and they could get by without it.

I took 2 different languages and it wasn't easy. I passed but lord knows if I would really pass if I went to the home country and had to function in it. Learned enough to help customers and answer basic questions.....but I'm sure I was more amature at my attempts than they were with their limited English skills. I kind of see me like that commercial where the businessman insulted the Asians by accidently calling them fish-face.

I mean I never took the course they advertise on TV as being easy, I was taught the repetition style and even though I passed, it's not to the standard where I would consider a true bi-lingual person. I'm amazed by those who can be talking in one language to their child and without skipping a beat, hear "next", and immediatly go to English to give their deli order and then back to another language. I seriously have to think of each word.....it's not second nature. I can also read it perfectly, yet not know what the heck I'm saying.....

They need more time in it with school if they aren't getting the support at home. 1 hour isn't much when you have the rest of the day in another language. 1 hour isn't enough when your home language is so freely out there you never have to really try and there's no real incentive if you can make everyone else have to learn your language. So many have said just the TV and music were a major aid in learning English.......when Spanish stations are out there in such numbers, it doesn't help with encouraging learning the language. Doesn't help when suddenly American citizens who speak English are suddenly expected to speak Spanish to get a job, yet they aren't required to speak English. It's alot more difficult for a middle-aged person to pick-up a new language they only occationally use at work, when their countrys language is English.

English helps you communicate with all the different people here who learned English. Spanish only aids one group and keeps them from learning English or having to. Spanish opens no doors for me but English does for them. If I moved to a Spanish speaking country, yes....then it would benefit....but I didn't leave. I'm glad to hear atleast one teacher is advocating the push and comming to some common sense approaches to helping the students. Lord knows we are dumping millions into schools and seeing no real change or advancement to the perel of our own kids.

Don't be concerned, the ILLEGALS and their Anchor Babies do not have any intention of learning English! They want to take over the United States for their Third World “homeâ€
