It doesn't say they are illegal but they kind of fit the profile.

ELMWOOD PLACE – Guatemala's loss to Mexico in Saturday night’s World cup qualifying soccer match may have started the fight that led to the wreck that killed one man and hurt five more, police say.

A group of men were arguing before one of them got into his Lincoln Town Car and – purposely, police say – mowed down the others early Sunday as they walked on Township Avenue.

Federico Morales Perez, 19, of Mount Auburn, was killed. Police released his identity this morning. It took police some time to find Perez’s relatives to notify them after he was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 4 a.m.

Investigators are still looking for the driver, Rey Serrano, 19. He also goes by the name Ilario Vasquez and sometimes goes by the nickname Angel.

Serrano is Guatemalan, said Steve Barnett, spokesman for Hamilton County Sheriff Si Leis.

“That’s the word we heard – that they were arguing over the Guatemalan-Mexican soccer match,’’ he said.

Mexico beat Guatemala 5-2, hurting Guatemala’s chances for making the World Cup tournament, to be held next year in Germany.

Barnett did not know the nationalities of the other men who were hurt. And it isn’t certain, he said, when detectives will be able to talk to the others, who remained in University Hospital this morning.

They are: Esequez Bartolon-Diaz, 24, who was critically injured; Estabon Ramirez, 18, and Neftali Vasquez, 21, both in serious condition Sunday; Eleuterio Roblero Ramirez, 24, and Itran Roblero Morales, 20, both in fair condition Sunday. Updated conditions were not available this morning.

Investigators had to find interpreters because the men don’t speak English well, he said. “That kind of slowed things down a bit,’’ Barnett said.
