Gunmen have kidnapped the only police officer who remained in a stretch of rural towns in the Juárez Valley, Chihuahua state police officials said today.
Erika Gándara, 28, was the only officer working in Guadalupe, a border town 30 miles east of Juárez.
Armed men stormed into her Guadalupe home about 6 a.m. Thursday and kidnapped her, said Carlos González, a spokesman for the Chihuahua attorney general.
Contrary to Mexican media reports that claimed Gándara's body was found, González said police were still searching for her. The El Paso Times sat with Gándara in November for a one-on-one interview.
See Sunday's edition of the El Paso Times for a full story.
