A Border Patrol pursuit led to vehicles hitting three illegal entrants on Interstate 10 Friday night, officials said Monday.

Border Patrol agents were chasing a green 2004 GMC Safari van headed west on Interstate 10 near Picacho Peak, said Officer Jim Oien, an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman.

Agents stopped the pursuit, he said, but the van went on into the desert and passengers fled.

One passenger crossed the interstate and was struck by a vehicle. Two others were hit by another vehicle.

Both drivers stopped and cooperated with investigators, Oien said.
A 20-year-old man was treated for broken bones and head injuries. A woman was treated for a broken leg.

A third person who may have been injured was not found by investigators during a search of the desert, Oien said.

The names of those injured were not released.
