Over the past two days, Sotomayor has been heavily criticized for her racially charged statement: "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

This has always bothered me. Richness of experience is subjective, as there are a lot of people probably equally qualified who have probably come from more "rich" experiences in their pasts. Ethnic origin should play no role in this, although per her actions in the past working for groups espousing ethnicity first makes this nomination a bit funky.
