ROMA - A Roma woman, who wished to conceal her identity, lives just across the Rio Grande River from the Mexican town of Miguel Aleman. She was woken late Saturday night to what she initially thought was the sound of fireworks. "I don't know I thought someone was just outside, so when I opened the door to hear thats when i realized oh my god theres a shooting in mexico." She said. But she soon realized the sounds were far more serious. She said the fighting went on for several hours; she heard machine gun fire as well as what she believed to be explosions from grenades. She said all of this was a sober reminder that there was a war in Mexico and that fighting is only a few miles from her families home. She was shaken by the ordeal but was relieved that no one in her family was physically hurt; however, she still worries what violence across the border may bring in the future
