LATINO GROUPS CALL ON CORZINE TO SPEAK OUT FOR IMMIGRANTS
WBGO News via RSS
HIGHTSTOWN - WBGO News (Wednesday, May 02, 2007)
Two major Latino groups in New Jersey say they’re tired of talk and want action from politicians and especially Governor Jon Corzine. They have specific policy demands but mostly want Corzine to speak out in defense of immigrants.
After laying out a seven point plan on immigration, including offering driving privilege cards to immigrants who don’t have the documentation for a regular driver’s license, Martin Perez of the Latino Leadership Alliance called out Governor Corzine. Perez says Corzine has been virtually silent on immigrant issues, even as raids are happening in the state.
Perez and his group endorsed Corzine in 2005, but say they’re growing tired of getting reassuring talk without accompanying action.
