A semi-truck carrying approximately 80 illegal aliens blew past a border patrol checkpoint in the Rio Grande Valley sector on Thursday night.

The residents in Riviera, Texas, were told to lock up their home after the illegals scattered into the brush.

Statement from CBP:

“On the morning of July 10, 2026, a tractor trailer approached the primary inspection lane at the Javier Vega, Jr. Border Patrol checkpoint near Sarita, Texas.

The primary agent noticed the driver was extremely nervous during the initial immigration inspection. The driver volunteered he was hauling produce in a non-refrigerated trailer and the primary agent directed the truck to the x- ray area for scanning.

The tractor trailer traveled northbound driving by the backscatter truck without being scanned.

Responding quickly, an agent located the tractor and conducted a traffic stop. When the agent broke the seal on the trailer and opened the door, an estimated 50 subjects jumped off the trailer, pushing past the agent and a Kenedy County Sheriff’s deputy.

Backup agents are currently in the area and tracking for additional apprehensions. A total of 45 illegal aliens, nationals of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Colombia, China, Chile, and Ecuador are in custody at this time.”

On Saturday it was reported that at least 58 of the illegals had been captured by law enforcement.

Up to around 80 immigrants fled into the South Texas brush early Friday after an 18-wheeler failed to stop at the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Sarita, triggering an hours-long manhunt that stretched across the small town of Riviera.

Border Patrol agents, BORTAC, Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue teams, local deputies, state troopers and constables searched along railroad tracks, through thick brush and around neighborhood homes after the immigrants scattered from the truck.

Kleberg County Constable Precinct 3 Jesse Rivera said multiple agencies coordinated the large-scale search.

“We had Border Patrol, we had BORTAC, we had Border Star. We had a helicopter in the air also and one of the things I had expressed is move them further out into the brush and away from the community,” Rivera said.

Residents awoke to helicopters circling low over their homes as authorities searched for the immigrants.

“It was kind of strange to wake up and hear helicopters flying overhead and really close, really really close right over the house,” Riviera resident Cristina Suarez said.
