BROWNSVILLE — Border Patrol agents at the inland checkpoint at Falfurrias seized more than three tons of marijuana with a street value of about $5 million from a tractor-trailer, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Monday.

After a drug-sniffing dog reacted to the scent of the marijuana, agents found the drugs hidden behind boxed appliances.

The driver and truck were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The arrest came Friday, the same day that Border Patrol agents at a highway checkpoint north of Laredo seized nearly 3,000 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $2.4 million.
