SAN BERNARDINO - A handful of protesters waving American flags - including one person in a Grim Reaper's costume - stood outside Sen. Barbara Boxer's downtown office Friday afternoon in opposition to the senator's stance on immigration laws.
Specifically, protesters were angry about an amendment that Boxer recently offered as part of an appropriations bill. The amendment would express the "sense of the Senate" that the Department of Homeland Security should hold back on the aggressive enforcement of immigration laws so as not to scare noncitizens from participating in the 2010 Census.
But it was the sense of those outside Boxer's office Friday that anything other than strict enforcement of immigration laws constitutes a "sell out" of U.S. citizens' interests.
And they weren't mad only at Boxer, one of California's two Democratic senators.
"Our elected officials, starting with our president, should be tried for treason," said Gabrielle Derocher, 50, of Hesperia.
President Bush was maligned earlier in the year by anti-illegal-immigration advocates for his support of a failed bill that would have legalized millions of illegal immigrants and created a guest-worker program that would have allowed 200,000 foreign nationals to work in the United States for two-year periods.
Boxer opposed the guest-worker program in the bill because of what she described in June as its potential to create downward pressure on wages. She has supported a legalization process for illegal immigrants.
Boxer spokeswoman Natalie Ravitz said the senator's amendment is intended to make sure the federal government has an accurate count of how many people live in California, which would affect spending decisions related to federal programs that are intended to benefit the state.
"We don't want California to lose millions of dollars," Ravitz said.

I agree that this should happen but its probably not possible. Too many are involved.
Our votes are very important. Vote in all elections. Get the Anti-American people out of office.
