SALEM, N.H. — An illegal immigrant who allegedly used fraudulent information to obtain a New Hampshire driver's license at the Division of Motor Vehicles office was arrested by state police Monday morning.

Onix Abreau, 40, of Lawrence, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, entered the United States illegally and was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, state police said.

At around 9:55 a.m., Troopers James O’Leary and Richard Dupont of New Hampshire State Police Troop G were working at the Division of Motor Vehicles when they were alerted to a suspicious man.

The man initially identified himself as Jose Rojas Valentine, 40 of Londonderry. O'Leary and Dupont, however, discovered that the documents he had provided to obtain a license were fraudulent, state police said.

With the help of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, officers were able to identify the man as Onix Abreau. They also learned that Abreau had illegally entered the United States.

The state police turned Abreau over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Anyone with information about Abreau is asked to call O’Leary at 603-223-8778.

Another man who allegedly entered the United States illegally and provided false documents at the local Division of Motor Vehicles office is set to be deported.

Ruberky Antonio Romero-Mejia, 37, pleaded guilty May 29 to one count of illegally re-entering the United States after having been deported, according to acting U.S. Attorney Donald Feith.

State police have investigated more than a dozen ID fraud cases this year compared to only six in all of 2014, Sgt. Andrew Player of Troop G said recently.
