Steve King: 'State of Union' Will Be Used to Split GOP

President Barack Obama will use his State of the Union address Tuesday to try to unite the Democratic Party and split Republicans over three major issues, says Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.
Appearing Monday on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," King said Obama will discuss unemployment benefits, increasing the minimum wage and immigration reform. All are issues Democrats are virtually united on, he said.
"All of them split the Republican Party right down the middle. That's their attempt," King said. "We'll see that coming, and Republicans ought to see it coming. It's a pretty obvious play."
The split is no greater felt than in the immigration debate, where House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, is introducing "piecemeal" legislation to counter the Democrats' goal of a sweepingly comprehensive bill.
But those in King's camp disagree even with Boehner's strategy.
While he agrees with a plan for legal status, especially for those who came to the United States as children, King says Republicans shouldn't lead with that card. King wants to see secure borders and enforcement of existing laws first.
Republicans should tell Obama to secure the border and enforce the law, King said. "Then we'll talk."
