STOCKTON - An 18-year-old Stockton man has been arrested in connection with the gang-related shooting death last week of 14-year-old Roberto Ramirez, the Stockton Police Department reported.

Ramirez was gunned down Tuesday afternoon near Charter Way and San Joaquin Street. Police said Ramirez and two other men injured in the shooting were members of a criminal street gang, and their attackers were members of a rival gang.

Shortly before midnight Friday, detectives investigating Ramirez's homicide served a search warrant at a home in the 2300 block of South Phelps Street.

There they arrested Hector Montoya, 18, on suspicion of participation in a criminal street gang, two counts of attempted murder and murder with an enhancement for membership in a street gang, which could lead to a sentence of death or life without parole if Montoya is convicted.

Montoya is being held without bail at the County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in San Joaquin County Superior Court at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
