    Stopping illegals re-entering the US

    Stopping illegals re-entering the US

The U.S. Attorney's office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are working together to ensure illegal immigrants who commit crimes in United States don't come back. It's called Operation Repeat Offender.

If and when an illegal immigrant is convicted of a crime, he or she will do their time in the penal system. Upon release they are deported to their country of origin.

Ed Preciado, an assistant field office director of Detention and Removal Operations says if criminal aliens return they can and will be prosecuted for illegal reentry.

Take for example, Rodolfo Hernandez-Chavez. He's a Mexican citizen, his record revealed three prior removals to Mexico and a conviction for lewd acts upon a child and two convictions for illegal entry into the United States. He was charged with reentry after removal and was sentenced to 51 months imprisonment.

Arizona leads the nation in the number of illegal entries into the United States. Since October 2007 through May 2008 approximately 360 criminal aliens have been recommended for prosecution here in Arizona.

Last year throughout the nation 1,808 were prosecuted, this year that number has nearly doubled to more than 3,800.

Preciado says public safety is the top priority, "These are the people that victimize our communities, these are the people that we want to keep off of our streets and we try to protect our communities as much as possible."

This is great - it really is! But common sense tells me this should have been the standard all along. Something also tells me that was not the case...

    and

It all means nothing without an armed border wall. How many lineal feet of fencing could be purchased with one year's worth of incarceration ($30,000)?

Absolutely! I also get the feeling this is more window dressing by our leaders. Instead of fighting this invasion in a court room, they need to secure that border with the millitary and stop this invasion at its source!

The next excuse we are going to hear is that they have to let the illegals go (without doing any jail time) because they do not have the manpower or room to enforce "Operation Repeat Offender."

This program would have a much beter chance of success if it were implemented in combination with the border being secured.

    Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,

If 7 miles of the VERY HIGHLY EFFECTIVE legislated double-layered fence did this in Yuma (San Luis), can't you just imagine what the LEGISLATED 700 MILES OF DOUBLE-LAYERED FENCE might have done???

and might still do for California???

Border Patrol Sector Apprehensions on our Southern Border (West to East)
Fiscal Year (Oct thru Sept)---2005-----2006---------2007-----FYTD 2008 (thru May 31)
Yuma Sector ----------------138,492---118,549-----37,992-----6,877 *(7 miles of Double-Layered fence constructed)
    San Diego Sector ---------126,879----142,104--- 152,460--- 110,164

California taxpayers are suffering from the burden of untold millions of illegal immigrants in our state. Despite what you say Arnold, illegal immigrants are the leading cause of our state budget deficit.

    Sincerely,
    name deleted (Buzzm1)
    A very concerned California citizen
