Strickland proposes legislation to end benefits to illegal i
State Assembly member Audra Strickland (R-Thousand Oaks) introduced two measures during the third extraordinary session that aim to end state taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal immigrants as a way to address the estimated $16-billion state budget deficit.
Assembly Bill 3X 20, if enacted, would prevent taxpayerfunded state benefits, outside of those required by federal law, from going to illegal immigrants. As an extraordinary session bill, the measure would go into effect within 90 days of being signed into law.
"It is simply wrong to make cuts to programs for legal residents while continuing to fund illegal immigrant and then raising taxes on Californians," said Strickland.
The bill would require individuals to provide evidence of their right to lawfully reside in the U.S. when applying to a government entity for a public benefit funded by state monies. This is similar to the proof of residency required for all legal employment.
The second measure, ACA 14, continues the same provisions as the first measure and will also place an initiative on the ballot for the people of the state to decide. If approved by the voters, legislators cannot overturn the policy without going back to the voters. http://www.simivalleyacorn.com/news/200 ... y/018.html
