Report: Many Stimulus Jobs Could Go to Illegals
    By Dave Eberhart
    Newsmax, February 5, 2009

A watchdog group warns that illegal immigrants might end up filling many of the estimated 2 million-plus new construction jobs featured in the Senate stimulus bill.

The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) estimates that about 15 percent of workers employed in construction in the United States are illegal immigrants. If no effort is made to bar illegal immigrants from these vital jobs, it is extremely likely that about 300,000 of the coveted jobs will go to them.

“If more people know Congress was going to let illegal aliens get these jobs, there would be even less support for the bill,â€

Tentative Stimulus Deal Does Not Include E-Verify Protection

Continue Sat. Actions! Tentative Stimulus Deal Does Not Include E-Verify Protections for American Jobs

    Updated Saturday, February 7, 2009, 9:00 AM

The Senate will resume consideration of the Stimulus bill (H.R. 1) at Noon today, Feb. 7. Late Friday night, Senate Majority Leader Reid (D-Nev.) announced a tentative deal to secure passage of the Stimulus bill in cooperation with the limited number of Republican Senators involved in negotiations.

Senators subsequently worked on a handful of amendments Friday night, but SA 239, an amendment that would protect American workers by requiring local governments and businesses to use E-Verify if they get Stimulus money, was not included in the list.

Shortly after Sen. Reid's announcement, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) questioned him about whether SA 239 would be heard. Reid could not elaborate. While it is difficult to believe that Senate leaders might insist that illegal aliens have the same chance at new Stimulus jobs as unemployed Americans, this scenario may now be at hand.
Your action is needed NOW to notify Senators that they will humiliate themselves if this amendment is not included.

Sen. Sessions (R-Ala.) and Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) have been leading a bi-partisan effort to make sure Stimulus jobs go to unemployed Americans, not to illegal aliens. Even if the Senate ends up voting against unemployed American workers and favors Stimulus jobs for foreign workers, the American people deserve a vote to know where their Senators stand.

There are several actions you can take to help get E-Verify in the Stimulus bill. Go to your Action Buffet NOW and fax and call your Senators urging them protect American workers.

There was some good news to report yesterday. Senators adopted an amendment (SA 306) sponsored by Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) that would to bar bailed-out banks from hiring foreign workers, for just one year. Their measure was prompted by an Associated Press investigation that revealed how banks receiving the most federal aid had requested visas for thousands of foreign workers even as they laid off employees during the economic downturn.

Apparently Republican Senators,Specter,Collins & Snowe have agreed to vote for the Stimulus Pkg. giving the Senate the needed 60 votes to pass.

    No mention of E-Verify.

I don't mean to sound like a naysayer, but I can't really help but wonder what the point of this particular statement is.

Exactly what kind of "humiliation" can our alleged senators expect anyway? The "humiliation" of being re-elected time and again no matter what they do, or don't do?

Because, quite frankly, that's precisely what I see happening.

The only difference between past elections and upcoming ones will be nothing more than the fact that their constituency will now be turning out in droves... as the unemployed, homeless, and hungry... casting their votes for these same liars and thieves promising them jobs, homes, and food instead of tax breaks and whatever other carrot of individual interest was dangled in front of their faces.

Are we to believe for a minute that our wonderful representatives don't KNOW this and aren't already planning their campaigns around this hook?

Further, as far as I know, "humiliation" requires the ability to be ashamed and embarassed by one's actions. For embarassment and shame to exist, one requires the ability to care about what others may think of you, how you are perceived, including morally and ethically, and to have some modicum of a conscience.

Does any of that sound even remotely of concern to the majority of those in office?

That being said, I'll dutifully send off my emails and faxes.... knowing full well that they will go right into the trash can..... while the majority of our "senators" are all having a good laugh at the expense of the American people who are the only ones facing "humiliation"

598,000 U.S. Jobs Lost in JAN -- Will Senate Today Go Through With Plan to Give Stimulus Jobs to Illegal Aliens?

By Roy Beck, Friday, February 6, 2009, 9:10 AM

The feds' monthly report was even worse than expected: 598,000 jobs cut in January. And, yet, Senate leaders have still not given permission for a vote on a Stimulus Bill amendment that would keep illegal foreign workers from getting jobs created by the massive taxpayer effort.

How many Americans have to lose their jobs before they are given priority over illegal aliens and the outlaw companies that hire them?

The government says employers slashed payrolls by 598,000 in January, the most since the end of 1974, catapulting the unemployment rate to 7.6 percent.

The Labor Department's report is grim proof the nation's job climate is deteriorating at an alarming clip with no end in sight. Job losses were far worse than the 525,000 economists expected. So was the rise in the unemployment rate, now at the highest since September 1992.

    -- Associated Press, 6FEB09

America's newspapers, for the most part, continue to do the work of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in protecting the hiring of illegal aliens instead of the rising armies of unemployed Americans. USAToday ran an article primarily devoted to stating the Chamber of Commerce's distorted criticisms of the E-Verify program.

It carried the typical lie that E-Verify threatens to mis-identify legal residents as illegal aliens and erroneously ordering them fired.

As I have noted previously, NumbersUSA has issued the challenge to find even ONE case of such a thing happening after milions upon millions of transactions over the last 12 years. To date, not one has been produced. E-Verify is one of the most accurate programs ever run by the government. (Click here to read a NumbersUSA factsheet on E-Verify.)

One of our staff phoned a pro-illegal-alien Senator this week to note the recent Heritage Foundation study that predicted the Stimulus Bill as written in the Senate would give about 300,000 new construction jobs to illegal aliens. The Senate staffer replied that, oh, no, that was not possible because it is illegal to hire illegal foreign workers.

Oh, my, I need a lot of those uproarously laughing smiley faces on this line!

Well, yes, it has been illegal to hire illegal aliens since 1986 when an amnesty brought our illegal population close to zero. But we now have an estimated 7.7 million illegal foreign workers in jobs. Obviously, simply saying something is illegal doesn't stop it.

Requiring every government and business to run new hires through E-Verify is absolutely necessary if Americans and authorized immigrants already here are to get the new jobs being created as rather minor relief to monthly collapse of U.S. jobs. (Click here to read a press release by Rep. Lamar Smith, urging that the stimulus protect American workers)

If the Senators decide to pass the Stimulus Bill, they have 598,000 more reasons today to include an E-Verify requirement.
