    Illegal immigrant and driver's liscense

I will be honest and tell you that I did not thought about this topic until Nov. 9th. I am hispanic and I am a US citizen. Why took me so long to think about illegal alliens? On Nov. 8th at 9:30PM while I waited to cross the street with my mother and my room mate. A DRUNK illegal allien struck us with a Ford F150!! Yes he is illegal and used to have a FL driver's liscense. His liscense was revoked due to numerous DUI but that did not stop him from driving and almost killing my mother. Of course he did not stop. He drove with a revoked liscensed and a stolen vehicle tag. He struck 3 people!! Me and my room mate ended up with minor injuries if you can call them minor (my neck and shoulder are mess up for life!). My mother was in a comma for almost a week and now has ireparable brain damage and requires constant supervision. If you think that the immigration issue wont affect you think twice. We were just standing infront of my house when we were struck from behind. Were is the allien you may ask? FREE, yes he was bonded and the DA told me he wont be deported because his crime is not consider a serious felony. I guess he needed to kill her with his bare hands. What is happening to the United States? Are we waiting patiently only to be strike from behind so we can be render unconscious? Now we have medical bills that will reach a million and no insurance. (MOD EDIT) I have always been a supporter of legal immigration but now I am really mad and want all illegals out. A driver's liscense is a priviledge OUR priviledge and should not be for illegal alliens.

    mmm: Welcome aboard.

I'm very sorry to learn of your experience. This is very tragic and preventable. I don't know any specific things we can do to help, but maybe others will come along and bring up some ideas and suggestions on the idea.

Won't your uninsured motorist coverage kick-in on this type of situation (I know, the provisions of such thing vary widely by state...)?
I'd definitely find a qualified attorney and get some precise legal advice on what your options might be.

Please stick around too - your experience is important and instructive for so many people. It is SO unfortunate that people must suffer such terrible things in order to convince politicians to do the right thing(s).

I truly hope you are doing well and I'm so sorry to learn about your mother's situation. Take care.

Thanks for your support. You really feel it when it hits close to home. Any info and support is greatly apreciated. I do have a lawyer and the new DA seems more optimistic about getting this guy convicted and in prision.
