PHOENIX - A suspected wanted for a shooting outside a west Phoenix convenience store in 2010 has been arrested in Mexico.

Phoenix police said 21-year-old Manuel Salazar III was apprehended in Durango, Mexico by the U.S. Marshals Office.

The arrest comes after Lance Taylor was killed when he tried to stop a beer theft at a Circle K store near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road on February 19, 2010.

Police said 23-year-old Taylor confronted a suspect who had taken two 30 packs of beer and tried to leave the store.

The suspect put the beer back and then pulled a gun and pointed it at Taylor, getting him to back up and then struck Taylor's wife in the head with the gun.

Taylor followed the suspect out of the store and again confronted him, and that's when the suspect shot Taylor. Taylor later died at the hospital.

The suspect fled in a nearby getaway car with his girlfriend, police said.

Police said Salazar was identified as a suspect the next day and with the help of his family he was able to flee to Mexico.

Salazar's parents and sister were arrested at the time for hindering prosecution.

Salazar is currently being held in Mexico City awaiting extradition to the United States.
