Suspect held after cocaine found in Hidalgo, Texas
Associated Press
HIDALGO, Texas — A 40-year-old man was arrested after border officials found 53 pounds of cocaine under the back seat of the car he was driving, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said today.
The cocaine has an estimated street value of $1.7 million, officials said.
Jose Jaime Gamez-Hernandez, of Santiago, Mexico, was arrested Saturday at the Hidalgo International Bridge. He was in federal custody today pending an appearance before a U.S. magistrate on drug charges.
CBP officers said they saw oddities in the undercarriage of the car Gamez-Hernandez was driving. A drug-sniffing dog reacted to the vehicle. The cocaine was found hidden in a manmade compartment under the back seat.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn
