    A broad coalition of more than 100 conservative leaders signed a letter Monday urging Senators to oppose S. 744, also known as the Gang of Eight immigration bill. “No matter how well-intentioned, the Schumer-Rubio bill suffers from fundamental design flaws that make it unsalvageable,” the letter reads. “Many of us support various parts of the legislation, but the overall package is so unsatisfactory that the Senate would do better to start over from scratch.”
    Letter signatories include RedState Editor Erick Erickson, radio host Mark Levin, Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin, and former U.S. Rep. Allen West. Levin’s addition to the list is an especially big blow to Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who has spent considerable time lobbying Levin on the bill.
    The letter lists a number of problems with S. 744, including accusations that it:

    • Is bloated and unwieldy along the lines of Obamacare or Dodd-Frank;
    • Cedes excessive control over immigration law to an administration that has repeatedly proven itself to be untrustworthy, even duplicitous;
    • Legalizes millions of illegal immigrants before securing the borders, thus ensuring future illegal immigration;
    • Rewards law breakers and punishes law enforcement, undermining the rule of law;
    • Hurts American job-seekers, especially those with less education;
    • Threatens to bankrupt our already strained entitlement system;
    • Expands government by creating new bureaucracies, authorizing new spending, and calling for endless regulations;
    • Contains dangerous loopholes that threaten national security;
    • Is shot through with earmarks for politically connected interest groups;
    • Overwhelms our immigration bureaucracy, guaranteeing widespread fraud.

    A group called “The Coalition against S. 744″ has also set up a website, called StoptheGangofEight!, where conservatives can read the letter and add their names to it.

    Stop the Gang of Eight!

    Join over 150 conservative leaders — sign letter opposing Gang of 8 bill!

    Stop the Gang of Eight!

    Eight Senators, Republicans John McCain and Jeff Flake of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Marco Rubio of Florida and Democrats Chuck Schumer of New York, Michael Bennet of Colorado, Dick Durbin of Illinois, and Robert Menendez of New Jersey joined, behind closed doors, well-funded special interest groups and cobbled together an ObamaCare approach to immigration.This bill, S. 744, grants immediate amnesty to the estimated 11 million illegal aliens in the country and only promises for future plans to secure the border. The bill also grants broad new powers to the scandal-ridden Obama Administration and will cost an estimated $6.3 trillion.
    A broad coalition of activists, journalists and scholars throughout the country signed the letter below objecting to S. 744. We invite you to join them by adding your name to express your dissent.

    After registering your objection to S. 744. Please take a moment to call your Senators at 202-224-3121. Tell them you just signed this letter and that you expect them to vote NO on the Gang of 8 bill!

    . . . The letter, which had nearly 150 signers — including former Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), RedState.com editor Erick Erickson and Jenny Beth Martin, the co-founder and national coordinator of Tea Party Patriots — also urges senators to not only reject the underlying legislation, but any procedural votes that would be required for the Senate to begin working on the bill on the floor.http://www.politico.com/story/2013/05/immigration-bill-mitch-mcconnell-91685.html#ixzz2Tza9QSpS
