Suspected drunk driver kills 6-month-old in St. Joseph County crash

MENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 6-month-old was rushed to two hospitals Tuesday before ultimately dying from a crash with a suspected drunk driver, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office.

Jimenez Lopez, 24, a Mexican citizen who entered the U.S. illegally and was without a valid driver's license, rear-ended a vehicle attempting to turn from M-60, deputies said.




Deputies found Lopez 150 yards from the crash site in a cornfield with minor injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

He admitted to had been drinking and tried to crawl away from the scene, deputies said.

Samantha Adams, 30, and her 6-month-old were taken to the hospital.

The infant was transferred again to a second hospital, but died from his injuries, deputies said.

Adams and Lopez were treated for minor injuries.

Lopez was taken into custody by the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office
