Suspected illegal immigrant arrested for allegedly raping woman outside Reno casino

A 25-year-old suspected illegal immigrant was jailed on charges he raped and battered a 43-year-old woman he met at a South Reno casino, Reno police said.

Hector Ramirez-Martinez was booked Monday into the Washoe County Jail on suspicion of sexual assault and battery to commit sexual assault. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have also placed an
immigration hold on him.

Reno police said Ramirez-Martinez and the victim met each other Sunday night at the Peppermill Hotel Spa and Casino on South Virginia Street for the first time. The pair had a mutual friend, and police said the woman asked Ramirez-Martinez to drive her to the friend’s home.

Instead, police said he threw her into the bushes near the casino’s parking garage and allegedly sexually assaulted her. Sgt. Gerald Rhodes said the business’ video surveillance corroborates the woman’s claims.
Officers found Ramirez-Martinez in the area, and arrested him following an interview.
