An Allamuchy man who authorities suspect may be an illegal immigrant led Hackettstown Police on a car chase into Morris County Sunday night, according to police reports.

Marco Antonio Muncada-Perez, 23, was arrested on multiple charges after he crashed what police discovered to be a stolen pick-up truck on Route 24 in Washington Township, N.J.

"He was putting other people's lives in danger," said Detective Darren Tynan.
Tynan said the pursuit never reached high speeds, but reports say that the 2000 Ford F350 pick-up truck was driving in the wrong lane, passed several cars and ran a red light.

The chase allegedly began at the intersection of Routes 517 and 46 in Hackettstown around 11:30 p.m., according to police. Officers were responding to calls of an erratic truck, and saw a truck matching the description there.

Muncada-Perez allegedly cut off another vehicle at the intersection and continued down east on Route 46 while police attempted to stop him. Police said they pursued Muncada-Perez along Route 182 into Washington Township where he lost control of the truck and crashed into a utility pole.

He was treated at Morristown Memorial Hospital for minor injuries, and later taken to Warren County Jail where he was held in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Muncada-Perez was charged with two criminal counts and six motor vehicle counts, including driving while intoxicated and without a license, as well as additional charges from the New Jersey State Police and Washington Township Long Valley Police.

The truck, police said, was stolen from Tranquility Farms in Allamuchy, where Muncada-Perez worked.

Court documents Tuesday said there was reason to suspect Muncada-Perez may be an illegal immigrant, but no further details were immediately available.
