Police: 2 Fatally Shot Over Cell Phone Dispute
    By Hasti Taghi

    POSTED: Sunday, March 20, 2011

HOUSTON -- Investigators with the Houston Police Department said two men were fatally shot when they found a lost cell phone.

HPD said they were called to the 6200 Block of West Bellfort at the Bel-Lindo Apartments at about 2 a.m. Sunday where they found the bodies of the two victims.

Jose Flores said he was a friend of one victim and a nephew of another.

"When I got here, I found my friend lying there and my uncle over there both dead -- murdered," Flores said.

Investigators said the two victims and a third person were buying beer from the Albury Food Mart when they found a cell phone and decided to take it. They said the owner of the lost phone called looking for it.

Sgt. Will Gonzalez said one of the complainants told the men to come to the complex and started negotiating.

"We'll give you the phone, give us some money," Gonzalez said.

He said the three victims were ambushed by the culprits at the complex just across the street from the food mart. According to police, unable to flee, the disabled man was shot on the spot while the other two took off running. Gonzalez said at least 10 to 15 shots were fired through the courtyard hitting and killing a second victim, and the third man got away unharmed. He said the men took off in a car.

Now Flores said he's in disbelief that two men are dead over a cell phone dispute.

"I don't know what to say," Flores said, "I couldn't begin to say anything."

Investigators said they are looking at video from surveillance cameras at the food mart and ones at the complex to seek more information in this investigation.

They are trying to determine if someone at the complex has the phone. They said shots went through at least one apartment but no one else at the complex was hurt. They believe the men took off in a dark blue or black Honda Civic with a sunroof.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Charges have been filed against two suspects wanted in the fatal shooting of two men earlier this month in southwest Houston.

The suspects, Divis Garcia Ordonez, 25, and Antonio Leon, 22, are each charged with two counts of murder in connection with the shooting at an apartment complex at 6200 West Bellfort back in the early morning hours of March 20.

Police tell us Ordonez and Leon, who has an alias of George Celaya, are believed to have fled to their native country of Honduras.

The victims, Manuel Ponce, 31, and Elvin Gutierrez-Reyes, 23, suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Ponce and Gutierrez-Reyes were in the parking lot of the apartment complex on West Bellfort, waiting for one suspect to arrive so they could return a phone they had found at a convenience store in the 11100 block of Albury.

When the suspect arrived, police say, one of the suspects opened fire on both victims, killing one in the parking lot. The suspect then chased after the second victim and fatally shot him in another area of the apartment complex. The suspect then fled the scene in a dark, four-door car, possibly a Honda Accord.

Ordonez and Leon were later identified as the suspects in this case. They both remain at large.

Anyone with information in this case or on the whereabouts of the wanted suspects is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Two suspects in the March 20 shooting deaths of two men at a southwest Houston apartment complex may have fled for their native Honduras, police said.

Divis Garcia Ordonez, 24, and Antonio Leon, 21, each are charged with two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of Manuel Ponce, 31, and Elvin Gutierrez-Reyes, 23, at 6200 West Bellfort, according to the Houston Police Department.

Ponce and Elvin Gutierrez-Reyes were pronounced dead at the scene about 2 a.m., police said.

Police said Ordonez and Leon, also known as George Celva, are believed to have gone to Honduras, though they didn't disclose what led them to that belief.

Police said Ponce and Gutierrez-Reyes were in the parking lot of the apartment complex waiting for one of the suspects to arrive so they could return to him a cell phone that had been found previously at a convenience store.

When the man arrived — police did not specify which of the two suspects it was - he opened fire, killing one of the victims in the parking lot, police said. Police said the other victim ran away and the gunman chased him down and fatally shot him in another area of the complex.

The gunman left the area after the shooting in a dark, four-door car, possibly a Honda Accord, driven by the other suspect, police said.

Anyone with information about the case or Ordonez's and Leon's whereabouts is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

What is happening here in America? The HISPANIC culture of corruptness.

I have found wallets and phones and made every effort to return them to their owner never asking for a thing. EVIL is coming here and with the quickness.

Probably wouldn't have happened if the Dream Act had been passed.

    Yeah, that was sarcasm.
