(Editor’s note: This is part one of a four-day series on the impact of immigration in Madison County.)

Imagine you are so poor that your six-member family is living in a four-room house without a bathroom.

To wash your family’s clothes, you must take them to the river and get them as clean as you can.

Your children are thirsty for knowledge, but there’s no school in your town.

There are no jobs and many nights, you lie awake wondering how you will continue to take care of your family.

With hopes of a better life, imagine you move your family to a nearby city, but there are no jobs there, either. And still no school.

    What would you do?

    “You would move, too,â€

Landlords need to require a bank account and a background check. Just by telling people you check backgrounds and SSN keeps illegals from applying. I know a person that put "ALL SSN's VERIFIED" on the door and people would walk up and turn away.

...when you come and you can buy a secondhand car...

Well for starters, if I were that poor, I certainly wouldn't be having four children! But since personal responsibility seems to not apply to these people, I guess we can disregard that observation.

I also find it amusing how these people equate entering this country in violation of immigration laws to 'moving.'

So the desire for a better life gives them the right to violate our immigration laws? Well, I'd have a better life if I didn't pay my taxes. Does this give me the right to violate our tax laws?

What;s the problem with the police and ICE? Surely that description of the trailer should make it possible for the Sherrif and/or ICE to locate it and deport that IA's there?

I don't really understand the actions of the police when these stories are published. There is often enough information to identify and locate and deport these IA.s

Madison County school are facing a growing need to implement programs geared to help immigrant children prepare for a successful future, and there are several entities at work to meet that need.
The problems caused by language barriers in schools is one that leaks out into everyday activities and is becoming more of an issue, said Socorro Zaragoza, assistant professor of Spanish at Eastern Kentucky University.
