Congressmen Ask Bush Administration to Stop Issuing Visas to Offending Nations

( Washington, D.C. ) – U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO) and 11 other Members of Congress today sent a letter to Secretary’s Michael Chertoff (DHS) and Alberto Gonzales (AG) asking the two cabinet members to pressure foreign governments to accept deportable aliens from the United States.

“As you know, dozens of nations around the world routinely refuse to accept their own nationals when the attempts to repatriate them to their country of origin,” wrote Tancredo, member of the House International Relations Committee. “As a result, these aliens are free to remain in the US.”

The letter notes that the People’s Republic of has refused to accept approximately 40,000 of their nationals who are slated for deportation. The letter added that nations in Central Asia, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East and Central America also refuse to cooperate with efforts to deport their nationals with excuses ranging from disagreements over asylum policy, to concerns about allowing criminals back into their communities. The outcome of which essentially forces to permit these aliens to remain in the indefinitely.

Media reports have also uncovered a case in Nashville where an Iranian national was convicted of shooting a man in a bar and was set free after immigration officials could not deport him to his home country. The man is currently walking the streets looking for a new job in the Music City .

Tancredo reminded the agency heads that they do have ample tools to prevent this practice. law calls for the administration to retaliate against nations who engage in this type of behavior by discontinuing the issuance of immigrant and non-immigrant visas to its nationals. He cited 8 U.S.C. 1253(d) in his letter, which states, "On being notified by the Attorney General that the government of a foreign country denies or unreasonably delays accepting an alien who is a citizen...of that country...the Secretary of State shall order consular officers in that foreign country to discontinue granting immigrant visas or nonimmigrant visas, or both, to citizens, ...of that country until the Attorney General notifies the Secretary that the country has accepted the alien."

Tancredo added, “We hope that you will notify the Secretary of State about which countries are refusing to comply with our deportation requests, so that appropriate actions will be taken.”

More common sense from Tancredo and others. Do we know who the other 11 were? Seems letters to Bush & his group just get lost or ignored.
How I wish Tancredo were president!

    Yippee!!

Do you not love this man, Tom Tancredo?

    He is just fabulous.

You know one of the reasons he is so competent? He reads and writes.

That gives him so much power over the others who wait for someone else to tell them what to do, what to say, and write everything for them.

    Tancredo is the Real Deal.
