Maryland Kills Bill to Aid Undocumented Students

Undocumented students will continue to pay higher tuition rates at Maryland colleges after the state Assembly effectively killed a bill that proposed to grant them in-state rates if they are residents. El Tiempo Latino reported that legislators adjourned before considering the bill, which was introduced by Sheila Hixon. Even if they have graduated from Maryland high schools, undocumented students are considered nonresidents and pay college tuitions that are about three times the rate for residents.

Illegal immigrants are foreign nationals and, should be held to the same standards as all international students at Univ. of Maryland, including paying the appropriate out-of-state tuition rate. Furthermore, they shouldn't be admitted in the first place since they haven't complied with the requirements necessary for the admission of foreign students (visa, proof of funds to cover tuition and costs, medical checks, etc.). Why do these colleges have a double standard when it comes to foreign nationals? Illegals get to bypass most of the requirements imposed on the foreign students who come here legally with student visa.
