Please don't anyone be fooled by these arrests in California

Immigration officers in the entire country have been told that they are not enforce the laws as they are broken, but to go after illegal's that have already broken the laws. I heard it from an Immigration officer. My question is why are they going after people who have already been convicted of a crime and have been told to leave? Why didn't they convict them, deport them and do what they said they would and build a darn fence to keep them from coming back?
If you and I were to do anything close to what this Illegal Immigrants are doing we would be in jail and not be allowed to scale a wall and get back into society.
This is all a tactic to make the American people think that government is at work on this issue. It does not even amount to what is out there breaking the laws and killing now. They kill faster than then they round them up.
Let the feds deport them and then let them walk back in. That is our tax dollars at work folks. We just let the government play there little shuffle game with Illegal Immigrants and with more of our tax dollars being flushed down the toilet because the illegals are just walking back in. Pork spending or more Illegal Immigrant spending.
The government has tried to pull more wool over our eyes on this issue.

I personally find it sick that the police cannot enforce the immigration protocol. Seriously, we are told over and over that it's the job of the Feds, but this is total bull since no feds are going to show up in your town to enforce the immigration laws. Police are mostly local by definition.

Wake up US citizens! Demand from you local authorities that the police is given powers to check the immigration status of any suspect! We are totally stuck without it.

THERE IS ONE MORE THING. DO THEY ACTUALLY DEPORT ALL OF THESE ILLEGALS THAT THEY HAVE DETAINED? WE DONT KNOW. OH THERE ARE PLENTY OF SOB STORIES...BUT MANY OF THESE STORIES ARE ABOUT PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THE DEPORTATION PROCESS, NOT YET DEPORTED. I AM AFRAID THEY ARE RAIDING FOR SHOW, BUT THE END RESULT WILL BE THAT THESE PEOPLE WILL BE TURNED LOOSE.

    ICE Raids

I believe your incorrect most of ICE's recent fugitive efforts are real and certainly well meant. If anyone was telling them not to do their jobs, it would be on the front page of the Times tomorrow. The reason it seems just a drop in the bucket is that you have too few agents, not nearly enought detention spots to keep those arrested, and most of all...too many lawyers dragging cases out for years , clogging the limited system so its overwelmed.

    My two cents...

I am sorry to have to tell you that I called ICE myself and was told that they can't help me. I am not making this up. I hope that the problem is there are to few of them and not the government telling them who to arrest and who to leave alone. I have illegal aliens driving big expensive SUV's that bring people in across the border. I can tell you what someone really looks like after they come in. I see them on a regular basis.
I told ICE and ICE told me sorry. We can't help you.

    More

I agree they certainly could and should be doing much more! But the agents that I know are out working 12 plus hours daily, they have told me we would arrest more but no place to put them.

U.S. Says Number of Fugitive Aliens Down
Government Working to 'Identify, Target and Remove Fugitive Aliens'
By JACK DATE and THERESA COOK
    June 20 —

A staggering number of fugitive aliens are in the United States, but an increase in federal raids and prosecutions have brought the number down for the first time since 2003, when the federal government began tracking the numbers after the creation of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

Fugitive aliens are typically people in the United States illegally who have ignored their final deportation orders. The number of those individuals has grown steadily over the last several years, at an average rate of about 68,000 per year -- or more than 5,600 per month.

The total backlog of fugitive aliens has soared to more than 630,000. But over the last two months, the number actually dropped by 500, according to ICE.

"ICE has been working aggressively to improve the systems that help us identify, target and remove fugitive aliens from the United States," said Julie Myers, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for ICE.

The agency tripled the number of its Fugitive Operation Teams, groups that find and arrest individuals identified as fugitive aliens, from 18 teams in 2005 to its present 61. ICE plans to add 14 more teams by the end of September.

Additionally, ICE opened a support center in June 2005 to improve the efficiency in processing case files. Also that month, ICE launched a partnership with the Federal Bureau of Prisons to identify illegal aliens serving time in the prison system. The partnership, ICE says, cleared a backlog and allowed the government to deport aliens immediately after release from prison.

    Dropping 'Catch and Release'
ICE also credits the decline to ending its "catch-and-release" practice and stepping up aggressive apprehension efforts. Under catch-and-release authorities would arrest illegal immigrants, then release them from custody pending their deportation hearings.

The practice was heavily criticized as ineffective, because illegal immigrants routinely failed to appear at their hearings. They'd keep their illegal status and remain in the United States.

ICE says before the catch-and-release policy ended in September 2006, only 34 percent of non-Mexican illegal immigrants arrested along the border were held in custody.

ICE lauded the expansion of detention facilities, allowing the government to keep those arrested in lockup until their deportation proceedings began. In addition, expedited deportation proceedings and reduced processing time -- from 90 days to 30 days -- contributed to the deportation of a record 186,000 individuals during the 2006 fiscal year. Of those, 17,817 were identified as fugitive aliens.
