"A van suspected of transporting 13 illegal aliens was found Thursday on Floyd Hill, making it the fourth van suspected of human trafficking discovered in Clear Creek County this week."

"The incident comes only two days after a driver of a van that crashed on Interstate 70 ran from the accident. Jose F. Franco-Rodriguez, 23, was apprehended after a long search and is now charged with human trafficking, reckless endangerment, failure to remain at the scene and careless driving.

It is also the fourth van stopped this week in Clear Creek County suspected of human trafficking. A new state law allows local law departments to apprehend suspects in human trafficking, but the state has no authority to hold illegal immigrants.

"ICE (Immigration Customs Enforcement) is slammed," Krueger said.

Krueger said the problem has been going on for years.

"If I had to guess, I would say there are several loads a day," he said."

I 70 is the only east/west hwy going through Co.
I am sure there is a lot more traffic out there than we know about.

Right now, the road through Clear Creek Canyon is closed from 6am-2pm sporadically for a rock fall prevention project. Likewise, on I-70 they are putting in those traffic meter lights on the onramps. Why can't they come up with some "project", say between Idaho Springs and Empire, where they narrow the road, slow it down (with some reason that will not tip off the illegals) then have a good look at every multipassenger vehicle that goes through, for - say - a week. Suspicious vehicles get pulled over, those that blow through get chased.

Bet they'd find something worth talking about.

Look at all the energy and resources they put into setting up speed traps for us, especially on the holidays. Why can't they do something like that to catch the illegals?

Better profits, easier work dealing with Americans that will just put a check in the mail. Public safety in this country? My big Moon!

You can't leave San Diego county without going through a check point, they still get through but it makes it harder on them.
