DES MOINES, Iowa — GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said with the flat tax plan that he supports, the IRS can be abolished, and America can put those 90,000 IRS employees to work down at the Southern Border.

“We need to padlock that building. Take all 90,000 and move them down on the southern border,” Cruz said of the employees currently working at the IRS building. “Imagine if you traveled thousands of miles in the blazing sun, you’re swimming across the Rio Grande, and the first thing you see is 90,000 IRS agents; you’d turn around and go home, too!”

Cruz addressed Iowa voters at the Iowa GOP Growth and Opportunity Party event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa, Saturday, along with nine other GOP presidential candidates.

He said he believes in the simple flat tax. “The simple flat tax says for every American–every individual, a family of four–the first $36,000 of income you earn, you pay zero,” he explained.

“All taxes on the first $36,000 are zero,” he repeated. “Above $36,000 dollars, everyone pays a simple flat tax of 10 percent.”

“It’s simple, and it’s fair,” he added, stating that more words are in the IRS tax code than in the Bible.

What about the SS and Medicare Tax? Your plan means everyone at $36,000 or below is paying 7.65%, not zero and everyone above $36,000 up to the maximum on SS tax is paying 17.65%. Self-employed persons and independent contractors would be paying 15.30% on SS plus the 10% income so are paying 25.30%.

You're not getting rid of the IRS with this plan because someone has to review the income tax returns. So for the middle class, this is a much higher cost plan than the FairTax, which is only 23% of what you spend on new goods and services, not what you earn, which is much less than your plan, plus anyone regardless of their income, who is a US citizen or legal resident can sign up for the Rebate which reduces this tax cost even further.

The 23% FairTax rate includes funding for SS and Medicare so payroll along with all income taxes are abolished. Under the FairTax you really can get rid of the IRS, because all the Feds do through a small sales tax division is review the 50 state FairTax transmissions every month, because the states collect the FairTax on gross sales of new retail goods and services, not the IRS.

Ted, you are a co-sponsor of the FairTax in the US Senate, S 155 which is HR 25 in the US House of Representatives. Why don't you promote in your race for President what you have sponsored in Congress for years? Why propose any income tax plan? Why not tell people about the FairTax national retail sales tax plan that eliminates all income tax returns and really does abolish the IRS?

Ted, why force any American or any American business to pay any income tax or file income tax returns? Just pass the FairTax and let people decide what to buy when they want to and pay the FairTax that's part of the price they voluntarily choose to pay, use their Rebate to offset the FairTax on essentials up to the household consumption allowance, and set Americans free from the horrendous disaster of over a century of an income tax scheme that's never paid the bills and runs our employers out of the country?
