HIDALGO — Authorities arrested an 18-year-old Reynosa man suspected of smuggling nearly $2 million worth of cocaine across the U.S.-Mexico border Friday afternoon.
Luis Carlos Luna Romo, a Mexican citizen, was driving north into the United States at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge when a drug dog detected cocaine inside the truck, according to a statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
An X-ray scan revealed anomalies in the rear cab wall of the truck’s interior. Officers retrieved 25 cocaine packages from the vehicle. The drugs weighed about 60 pounds.
Luna remains incarcerated pending an appearance before a U.S. magistrate. He is in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
