Blue Latinos:What part of “Illegal don’t

    What part of “Illegal don’t you understand? [General] - Jose - jose@bluelatinos.org @ 10:54:48
For the most part, this question sums up the argument and sentiments from anti-immigrant groups.
Every time I hear (or read) this question, I’m reminded of a picture I saw that was taken during the Civil Rights Movement, of a young white girl, with her family beside her, holding up a sign that read “Integration is ILLEGAL! I could just imagine a similar sign during the reconstruction period: “Freedom for slaves is ILLEGAL! Or even another during the Women’s suffarage movement: “Women voting is ILLEGAL! Or another… well, you get the point.

At those historical moments, I’m sure, a small group of courageous people must have asked: Is our legal system moral? Is the legal system true to America’s values of justice, equality and opportunity? Is our legal system denying people’s unalienable rights?

I’ll venture even further and say that these courageous people understood their moral dutyâ€â€

You said it, Sixx. This is the default position of anybody who wants to latch on to some sort of legitiimacy for an illlegitimate cause. All you have to do is compare yourself to the great Civil Rights pioneers. Claim that the whites are treating you like they treated American Blacks.

One big problem. Those maltreated blacks were AMERICANS. I wonder if this guy would feel the same way if the immigrants were radical Muslims, who wanted every Catholic dead? Don't the radical Muslims have rights?

Our immigration system is no different. The current system is broken. It’s not functional. It’s un-enforceable. It’s allowing people to die at America’s doorsteps. It’s the source of human suffering. It’s dividing America. And it’s putting America in danger, frankly.
Well this schmuck did get one thing right, the immigration system is putting us in danger - danger from being inundated by illegal, ignorant, disease ridden, poverty stricken, criminal aliens.
    When we gonna wake up?

To me, this all points to a slide in popular thinking towards the way the Third World does things. The Rule of Law means nothing. It is an inconvenience and something to be gotten around. Mexican Americans know exactly what I mean when I say that.
