A Fairfax County high school student was stabbed Friday during the fourth straight day of student protests against immigration legislation in Congress.

The 16-year-old boy was stabbed shortly before 11 a.m. as students were protesting along South Van Dorn Street near Castlewellan Drive, near Edison High School.

The victim was being treated Friday at Inova Fairfax Hospital. His condition was not released, but police said his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A 17-year-old boy from the Springfield area was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, police said. Another teen detained for questioning was released.

Investigators were unsure if the stabbing suspect was participating in the protest.

Thousands of students from Fairfax and Arlington counties and Falls Church have either left school early or skipped classes altogether this week to rally against proposals in Congress to crack down on illegal immigrants.
