No, you don't "let them come here", but if they get in and need an abortion during detention, it's no different than if they need dialysis. I don't see giving one person in custody one form of medical procedure they want or need and denying another one a different procedure.

Federal inmates have access to abortions, there is no explanation at all for an illegal alien in federal detention not to have the same.

DHHS has royally screwed-up. Was Tom Price a Pro-Lifer? Is he the one responsible for this stupid policy that violates all rules and regulations for those in federal custody, not to mention violates common sense and the national interest? Texas has nothing to do with it. She's in FEDERAL CUSTODY. What if something goes wrong in childbirth and her family sues good old USA? Her risk of something "going wrong" is much greater in childbirth than during an abortion procedure. There's a 2 year back-log on deportations, she's going to drop an anchor baby in a few months if you don't get her to a clinic. Is that what you want?

If she could afford it herself, I'm sure that fact would have been mentioned in the article that started this thread. Making the state pay for it is forcing the state of Texas to fund an illegal alien benefit. I agree with AG Ken Paxton, the state is not responsible for this girls abortion and shouldn't be forced to pay for it!

Who says she has to wait two years to be deported? If she was caught within 100 miles of the border, she could have be deported immediately! She is a minor and should be escorted to the border and turned over to Mexican security officers for escort to the nearest hospital if her need is immediate.

The state would not be paying for it, the girl or a charity would be paying for it, worst case the feds would be paying for it like they pay for every other medical procedure needed or wanted by an illegal alien while in custody. When she gives birth in detention, who is going to pay for that? $15,000 for a childbirth assuming no complications. $300 to $600 for an abortion.

Yeah, if she doesn't have the money and no charity will pay for it, as a federal taxpayer I will GLADLY support the feds to pay for it while she's in detention. I thought there was a federal law that prohibits federal money being used to pay for abortions. So I honestly don't see a way for the feds to pay for it, she has to pay for it or have a charity pay for it. If you can deport her before the 26 week deadline in time for her to find another country or another way to have a legal abortion procedure, have at it, but you keep her in detention past that deadline, and that's a huge legal problem if you ask me.

You're missing the whole point in your siding with the ACLU. Abortion, except in the case of a medical emergency to save the mother, is an elective surgery/procedure. Attorney General Ken Paxton is fighting it because the state of Texas doesn't want to become a mecca for every illegal alien seeking an abortion. So basically you're advocating for the rewarding of an illegal with the very thing she came here for. Furthermore, giving her the abortion is giving her a benefit. NO BENEFITS FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS AND NO REWARDS FOR BREAKING THE LAW.

So should the state of Texas, California, and Arizona be responsible for the abortions of every illegal that sneaks over here wanting one? If DHS really wanted, I'd think they could figure out a way to expedite her deportation back to her parents since she is a minor with parents in Mexico. Perhaps all that is needed is a simple phone call to the Mexican consulate to hand over custody for return to her parents. We need to send the message that illegals can't just sneak in our country to obtain benefits not available to them in their own country. I say send her and her unborn child back immediately.

The defending of an illegal alien's right to an elective medical procedure under the guise of pro-choice is just wrong headed in my view. The pro-choice argument has no place in this discussion. The illegal made her own choice to sneak over here and in doing so should be willing to accept the consequences for her actions. Oh, and the anchor baby argument you're trying to hide behind is a non-starter because surely our federal government is smart enough to figure out how to get the girl back to Mexico within the next 6-7 months.

One last thing. If it was truly just an abortion the girl was seeking, I'm sure she could have found a way to have one in in her own homeland. Perhaps it would have been illegal, but so is sneaking into the United States!

I'll be very surprised if the judge actually forces DHS or anyone else to give the girl an abortion. The judge may not prevent it, but I doubt he (or she) will force it.

Current law prohibits that under the laws passed during Obama protecting these Unaccompanied Alien Children, (minors under the age of 18 yrs of age). Trump wants those laws changed so they're bumped back at the border instead of kidnapped and hauled into the interior to be detained and supported by US taxpayers. But that's months maybe years away and won't happen in time so unless she is allowed the freedom to have the abortion procedure, you'll be greeting with tax dollars another anchor baby.
