(Las Vegas, NV) -- Christian Cortes is now starting a prison sentence for a deadly accident in North Las Vegas. On Wednesday, the 19-year-old Cortez was ordered to spend at least five years behind bars for the May 2007 accident that left four-year-old Ziyana [[ zy-YAN-na ]] Castillo dead. Police say Cortes was going about 60 miles an hour in a 35 mile an hour zone, when he lost control of his car on Civic Center Drive near Las Vegas Boulevard North. The crash killed Ziyana, and left her older brother and her mother injured. Cortes fled the scene, but later turned himself in. He pleaded guilty to charges of reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Cortes apologized to the parents and hugged his mother before he was taken away in handcuffs. The young construction worker is in the country illegally, and is expected to be deported to Mexico once his prison sentence is over.
