Twenty-eight people have been indicted in connection with a drug-trafficking ring that moved narcotics from San Diego to Ohio and New York, according to federal court records.
The 101-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Ohio was unsealed Thursday.
The records give insight into an operation that peddled cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, crack cocaine and marijuana from 2006 to 2010.
Among the accused are three men in San Diego who helped organize shipments to New York and Youngstown, Ohio, for the drugs to then be distributed locally, the records state. One of those shipments, which contained 13 pounds of meth, was seized by federal authorities and constituted one of the largest seizures of the drug in northern Ohio’s history, according to the Tribune Chronicle in Ohio.
The drugs reportedly originated from Mexican cartels.
As of Thursday afternoon, 22 of the 28 indicted were in custody, according to the newspaper.
