Tension, hope rise at Utah immigration forum

Amid vitriol, fear and distrust; name-calling, race-baiting, and hate-mongering; amid all that has been associated with the immigration debate, this was supposed to be a shelter from the storm.

But there was no such luck at a Saturday morning immigration forum held at the Salt Lake County Government Center.

Perhaps, suggested one man, military veterans should step in to enforce immigration laws that the federal government has ignored.

Listen, said another, to the echoes of white nationalism in the words of those seeking to expel undocumented immigrants from our state.
