SOUTH TEXAS - The state of Texas is boosting its presence along the border. It's their response to the increased threat on law enforcement. The state says those threats are mainly in South Texas.

A Department of Public Safety spokesperson sent a statement about the state's spillover emergency plan. Part of it reads, "We have activated a portion of the plan and are intensifying our operations as a result of recent events in South Texas."

Some of those events include the shooting of a Hidalgo County sheriff's deputy by members of a drug cartel. Exact details on that plan are law enforcement sensitive and aren't being made public.

This also happened in March 2010. Threats of violence forced Gov. Rick Perry to activate the first phase of the state's spillover violence contingency plan. This meant more troopers were sent to patrol Valley streets and more air patrols along the border.
