Texas Border Patrol Agents Apprehend Murder Suspect

(Wednesday, August 12, 2009)

Falfurrias, Texas - On Monday evening, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Falfurrias Border Patrol Station apprehended a Yugoslavian man wanted in New York City for murder.

Arber Mustafaj was apprehended by Border Patrol agents when they discovered him on a remote road northwest of the Falfurrias checkpoint. Agents discovered that the 35-year-old man has an active warrant for murder in New York City. Mustafaj is a lawfully admitted permanent resident of the United States, who originally entered the U.S. as a refugee from the southern province of Kosovo in his native country of Yugoslavia.

Mustafaj was traveling with three other Yugoslavian men when he was apprehended. Agents believe the three subjects were attempting to circumvent the Border Patrol checkpoint. One of the men’s record checks revealed that he had previously been ordered deported. He is being held for deportation procedures. The third subject had valid documents to be in the United States legally and was subsequently released.

Mustafaj was turned over to the Brooks County Sheriff’s Department awaiting extradition.
